The Food Network aired a special tonight, which was titled “The Big Waste.” Four chefs were given a challenge to create a meal out of wasted food. This includes foods that retail stores, grocery stores, and restaurants have to throw away. The most shocking part is that all of the “trash” that they find is not trash at all. It is completely edible and safe! It’s amazing how much food we throw away just because we, as consumers, view these flawed items as useless.
I am a self-declared foodie and I absolutely hate wasting food. My boyfriend will throw out an item exactly on the date that is printed on it. I KNOW for a fact that those dates are not necessarily expiration dates; most of them are “Use By” dates. It’s just a suggestion for the quality of the product. I don’t even want to think about how much food I throw away each month, just because it looks ugly. I will definitely try my best to not waste any more food.
